Tabbouleh is a traditional Middle Eastern salad, primarily associated with Lebanese and Syrian cuisines. It’s a vibrant and refreshing dish, known for its fresh ingredients and healthy profile.
Tabbouleh is a refreshing and flavorful salad originating from the Levant region of the Eastern Mediterranean. It’s particularly popular in Lebanon and Syria.
Ingredients: It’s made with finely chopped parsley as the star ingredient, along with bulgur wheat (a cracked wheat), tomatoes, mint, onions, and a dressing of olive oil, lemon juice, and salt.
Flavor profile: The taste is a delightful balance of fresh herbs, tangy lemon, and the nuttiness of bulgur.
Serving: Tabbouleh is often served as part of a mezze platter, which includes various small dishes like hummus, baba ganoush, and pita bread. It’s a great accompaniment to grilled meats and can also be enjoyed on its own.
Variations:
- Quinoa Tabbouleh: Some versions use quinoa instead of bulgur for a gluten-free option.
- Additional Vegetables: Cucumbers or bell peppers can be added for extra crunch and flavor.
