Sidecar
  • 2 oz cognac
  • 1 oz orange liqueur
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp simple syrup optional, to taste
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar for the rim
  • 1 cup ice for shaking
  • 1 orange twist for garnish

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger
  • Strainer
  • Chilled coupe glass
  • Small plate

Method
 

Prepare the glass:
  1. Rub the rim of a chilled coupe with a lemon wedge or a little water. Dip it lightly in the sugar and set aside.
Shake:
  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the cognac, orange liqueur, lemon juice, and simple syrup if using.
  2. Shake hard for 10 to 15 seconds, until well chilled.
Strain and serve:
  1. Strain into the prepared coupe.
  2. Express an orange twist over the drink and place it on the rim.
