Venezuelan Papelon con Limon

A refreshing Venezuelan limeade sweetened with earthy unrefined panela.

Ingredients

Panela Syrup

  • 8 oz panela or papelon chopped
  • 2 cups water

Finish the Drink

  • 4 cups cold water
  • 1 cup fresh lime juice
  • 3 cups ice cubes for serving
  • 1 whole lime thinly sliced, optional

Instructions

Dissolve:

  • Combine the panela and 2 cups water in a saucepan. Warm over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring until fully dissolved.
  • Strain into a pitcher if the panela contains sediment and cool for 30 minutes.

Mix:

  • Stir the cold water and lime juice into the cooled panela syrup. Taste and add a little more water or lime if needed.
  • Chill until ready to serve.

Serve:

  • Fill six glasses with ice and pour in the papelon con limon.
  • Add one lime slice per glass if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Panela sweetness varies; dilute with extra cold water to taste.
  • Add lime only after the syrup cools to preserve its fresh flavor.
