Loukoumades are Greek bite-sized doughnuts, fried until golden and finished with honey, cinnamon, walnuts, and sesame.
A loose yeast batter creates a light interior, while hot oil gives each small doughnut a crisp shell for catching the syrup.

Keep a small bowl of water nearby to wet the spoon between scoops so the batter releases cleanly.
Serving Suggestions
Serve warm with coffee, Greek yogurt, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Recipe Notes
Loukoumades are best fresh. The batter can be refrigerated overnight and brought close to room temperature before frying.

Equipment
- Mixing bowl
- Dutch oven or deep skillet
- Candy thermometer
- Slotted spoon
- Small saucepan
Ingredients
Dough
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp fine salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Frying and topping
- 4 cups neutral frying oil
- 1/2 cup honey warmed
- 1/2 cup walnuts chopped
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions
Make the batter:

- Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
Fry:
- Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep pot. Use a wet spoon to scoop small portions of batter into the oil.
- Fry in batches until puffed and deeply golden, turning as needed. Drain on a rack or paper towels.
Finish and serve:
- Arrange the loukoumades on a plate. Drizzle with warm honey and scatter with walnuts, cinnamon, and sesame seeds.
Notes
- Keep the oil at a steady temperature so the centers cook before the outsides darken.
- Serve immediately for the best crisp texture.
